The meetings are to discuss a rewrite of the Education (England) (Pupil Registration) Regulations (2006) and how Local Authority attendance leads think the framework can be improved and strengthened.

It is clear that the Covid pandemic has exacerbated some of the issues relating to the school attendance system and this is a chance to learn lessons from how the legal framework for school attendance has functioned during Covid to help the DfE progress their thinking and build towards a system which remains fit for purpose.

The session will be an opportunity to have your say on what the role of the local authority is and should be in the attendance space and what regulations, powers and duties you think are needed to enable this. It will also be an opportunity for local authorities in your region to come together to share perspectives and experiences with the department and each other to feed into a conversation about the future shape of the school attendance system.

The DfE have sent the invitation to Attendance Leads via Directors of Children’s Services. Places are limited to one attendee per local authoritydue to regional coronavirus policies.
